Queensland's Emergency AtlasEmergency services in south-east Queensland have received a revision of 1:25,000 topographic maps for the region. Hardcopy map books, with accompanying DVDs, will soon be available to all Queensland Fire and Rescue Services field staff in the highly developed areas of south-east Queensland. The atlas was developed by Geoscience Australia and the Queensland government's Departments of Emergency Services and Natural Resources and Mines. The project is an example of the way that federal and state mapping agencies are now approaching their mapping programs. The initiatives include more collaborative decision-making in areas identified for revision. The aim is to capture data once, at the largest appropriate scale. It also involves a more co-ordinated approach to purchasing high-cost revision sources, such as satellite imagery and aerial photography, to reduce the cost to individual agencies. |
