Linux Rules

    The Australian Centre for Remote Sensing is to install Linux operating systems on two of its servers. The systems will be installed on the server that drives ACRES' direct ingestion chain at Alice Springs, and the one that drives its data archive.

    The move to Linux has been driven by a number of considerations. For example, the operating system offers considerably better input and output given a similar sized machine. In effect, one gets a faster server for the same price.
