Google Tool

A new MapInfo interface allows Professional 8 users to view MapInfo Pro maps in the Google Earth viewer. It works by exporting MapInfo maps to KML format. Keyhole Markup Language is a tool by which the Google interface can be customised.

The news follows an announcement last week of a similar application by ER Mapper. Other companies in the industry are also known to be developing import/export modules for Google.

The new software is not available via the Demos/Downloads section of the company's website. It must be accessed using either the Check for Update command, or using SmartUpdate MapInfo.

Using SmartUpdate, users can enter their serial number and version number manually in the above URL. The Check for Update command does this automatically.
