Ecarto

CartoData in Guadalajara, Mexico, has released eCarto. The product provides multi-user digitising capabilities over the internet. Using orthophotos served by ER Mapper's Image Web Server, it allows users to trace physical features and store this information in a database.

Image Web Server is designed to serve large volumes of image data via a Local Area Network or the internet.

Ecarto is designed so that groups or individuals can work effectively together even when they are located in different places. The feature information from eCarto is added to a geographic database using Open GIS standards.

CartoData is a big user of its own software. It recently digitised more than 1.5 million kilometres of street centrelines using staff in Mexico City, Argentina and Guadalajara, all linked by broadband ADSL.
