Aam Buys Dmc

Surveying and mapping company AAMHatch has acquired a Digital Mapping Camera. The camera is manufactured by Intergraph's Z/I Imaging subsidiary. The new camera will operate alongside the company's two airborne laser scanners.

The DMC is one of a new breed of aerial survey instruments, which use digital rather than analogue techniques.

The sale is the first in Australia. There have been several other sales of aerial cameras in Australia this year, but those were built by Leica Geosystems and Vexcel.

The DMC has proved very popular in Asia, with important wins in Japan and China.

Many potential users have been reluctant to invest in the million dollar devices for fear they would not be able to keep them fully occupied. However, AAMHatch believes that the speedy turn-around of imagery offered by the camera will make it attractive to its clients - mainly miners, foresters and others interested in civil engineering applications.

General manager Brian Nicholls says: 'the DMC fits our existing workflows. The camera's versatility will enable us to meet a broad range of customer requirements - providing timely and quality deliverables.'

AAMHatch says the camera will likely enter production on board its aircraft early in the new year.
