Environmental Remote Sensing is recognised as an area of research strength. State-of-the art equipment and software support with separate undergraduate (PC) and postgraduate (Workstation) laboratories. Dedicated technical support, internationally recognised academic staff and a strong postgraduate program foster an active teaching and research environment. Close cooperation and support is offered by regional research and management agencies. Research Centres at NTU such as the CRC for Sustainable Development of Tropical Savannas, CRC for Sustainable Tourism, the Key Centre for Tropical Wildlife Management and the Centre for Tropical Wetlands Management provide additional opportunities and focus for students. The GIS and Remote Sensing Program at NTU is offered by the Faculty of Science, Information Technology and Education (SITE) as coursework and research study suitable for graduates in the environmental sciences, information technology, planning, and many other disciplines. The Program may be taken as a major within the BSc degree. Postgraduate research involving GIS and Remote Sensing can be pursued through the BSc Honours year, the Master of Science (research) or Master in Tropical Environmental Management (coursework), and through PhD candidature. The program can also be followed through the coursework Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information and the Graduate Diploma in Geographic Information. Some of the units offered in remote sensing & GIS stream are offered in an external mode.
